About Ohio Watchmen for Liberation

Who We Are

Ohio Watchmen for Liberation (OWL) is a decentralized civic network dedicated to defending human dignity, promoting accountability, and fostering solidarity in our communities. We believe that a healthy democracy depends on active participation, mutual aid, and the protection of vulnerable populations. Our network spans Ohio, connecting individuals and groups committed to resisting authoritarianism, building local resilience, and advocating for justice through nonviolent means.

We are not a political party or lobbying organization. Instead, we focus on practical, community-centered action — from research and documentation to education, mutual aid, and civic engagement. Every member of OWL acts according to shared principles, guided by the OWL Covenant.

Our Mission

  • Mutual Aid and Community Defense: Strengthening neighborhoods through cooperative support and protective measures for the vulnerable.
  • Accountability and Transparency: Tracking institutional abuses, sharing verified information, and supporting those impacted.
  • Education and Empowerment: Providing resources and training to help people understand their rights and participate effectively in civic life.
  • Long-term Civic Resilience: Building networks that endure beyond short-term crises, fostering democracy, solidarity, and collective empowerment.

The OWL Covenant

Every member of OWL commits to this guiding framework:

Resist. Rebel. Rebuild.

Resistance – Stand against authoritarianism, fascism, and oppression in all forms, using nonviolent and ethical methods.

Rebellion – Question unjust structures, speak truth to power, and challenge systems that exploit or harm communities.

Reconstruction – Work collaboratively to create alternatives that strengthen communities, empower the marginalized, and restore dignity.

Commitments:

  • We act with integrity, honesty, and accountability.
  • We protect our communities and each other without resorting to violence.
  • We prioritize education, solidarity, and mutual support over personal gain or recognition.
  • We operate transparently wherever possible while safeguarding the safety of our members.
  • We reject discrimination, authoritarianism, and exploitation in every form.

By joining OWL, members pledge to uphold these principles in every action, ensuring that our network remains trustworthy, resilient, and effective in its mission.

Why OWL Exists Now

The rise of authoritarian practices, political extremism, and institutional indifference has created urgent needs in Ohio communities. OWL was formed to provide a structured, principled, and sustainable response. Our network bridges gaps where traditional institutions fail, offering practical support, civic education, and long-term resilience strategies.

We do this not for fame or politics, but because we believe a just and dignified society depends on active, ethical, and organized citizen action.
